163 Million

Did you know there are an estimated 163 million orphans in the world? (This is roughly half the population of the US.)

Today churches all over the country participated in Orphan Sunday. This is a day dedicated to praying for orphans, raising awareness of the great need that exists, obeying God's command to defend the cause of the fatherless and also to celebrate our adoption as children of God.

Our church, Faith, has recently started an orphan care ministry team and Aaron and I are thrilled to be serving on it. One thing that the team has worked on was creating a prayer calendar starting today though the end of the month. I am going to be posting the daily prayer guide in hopes that you will join us in praying for orphans and those seeking to care for them.

Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,

extol him who rides on the clouds;

rejoice before him—his name is the Lord.

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,

is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families,

he leads out the prisoners with singing;

but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

Psalm 68:4–6

Sunday, Nov. 6:

Pray for the development of the orphan care and adoption ministry at Faith (or at your own church). Pray that God would move in our church members’ hearts to care for orphans. Ask also that the Lord would lead us in specific ways that we can serve orphans and families who are adopting and providing foster care.
